“The Fish Cleaning Station Has Been A Long Time Coming” –

Those were the words of Mayor Gloria Hanson at the All Season Fish Cleaning Station Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting yesterday.
Those same words were echoed by Nicole Schwinler, Owner of Fort Pierre Motel, who spoke to a crowd of 35+ well wishers who came to celebrate at yesterday’s event. In fact, Mayor Hanson said, “This is the most people I have ever seen at a ribbon cutting in Fort Pierre.

Schwinler was the person who had the idea to build the facility and who championed it to its completion. Schwinler credited Garrick McCumsey, the contractor, who persevered to see the structure finished. What Schwinler and McCumsey thought would take one year ended up taking four as sponsors were sought for the $234,214.00 project.

Many in kind donations were received but it was the last two sponsors Craig and Leann Novak who helped to get the job done with their $50,000 contribution. The Novaks, former owners of Pierre Sports Center, said they believed it was a way they could give back to the fishing community who supported them while they were in business.
