Downtown Committee Focuses On Beautification & Keeping Mainstreet Vibrant

FPDC Downtown Committee met this morning at the Log Cabin where projects and events that will have an impact on Fort Pierre’s downtown were shared and discussed. Connie Carlisle provided a wonderful pistachio coffee cake for the group to share. Carlisle was also the winner of doorprize provided by Larry and Sandy Cronin featuring St. Patrick’s Day. She was required to wear the hat that was part of the door prize.

Attending today’s meeting besides Carlisle and the Cronins were Shane Kramme, Mayor Gloria Hanson, Lori Jacobsen, Greg Kenzy, John Duffy (not pictured), Wyatt Johnson and Sunny Hannum (not pictured). Upcoming renovations to downtown businesses and the firehall were topics of interest as was the Downtown Groups plans to obtain grants for the tuck pointing of the old Rowe Hardware building ant restoring of the “ghost murals” (old signs) on the Rowe Hardware Building and Gordon Hotel. Both of these buildings were built around 1900 and are an important part of the early history of Fort Pierre.

Wyatt Johson once again offered to take on the plantings at Triangle Park assisted by Fort Pierre Chamber.

Mayor Hanson shared information related to yesterday’s tourism meeting which included the dual grants they are offering this year: event grants and a new beautification grant.
