Peaceful Pines Staff, Residents & Fort Pierre Community Celebrated Grand Opening & Ribbon Cutting
Friday, March 1st, 2024, was a long awaited day for the Community of Fort Pierre and for the Peaceful Pines facility itself. Ground was broken August 17, 2022 midst supply and construction shortages. The developer, HME Management, had presented the idea of the senior care facility when the City of Fort Pierre and Fort Pierre Development Corporation had approached them about housing development.
Mayor Hanson said Friday, “The original idea was to develop workforce housing and this wasn’t exactly what we had in mind. But residents will most likely sell their homes to young families moving in. People have had to move to Rapid City, Sioux Falls and other places to get this kind of care. Now we have a facility like this so they can stay in their home community close to family, their doctors and home church.”
Dave Bonde, FPDC Executive Director, said, “This will open up availability for both Pierre and Fort Pierre. It’s not like everyone coming here is going to have a house for sale and some are moving to town from the ranch.” He continued, “The next step is to develop available property for housing along 1806. Fort Pierre received a grant to do that which may also require establishing a TIF.”
Friday afternoon’s event lasted from 2 to 4 p.m. with a buffet of refreshments prepared by kitchen manager, Jayson Nedredo, and his staff. A wide choide of beverages was available and a drawing for door prizes followed the ribbon cutting.
