Christmas Tree Lighting & Cookoff Kick Off The Christmas Season In Fort Pierre

December 2, 2024

Beth Briggs & Her Wagon Provided Fun For the Crowd Downtown Fort Pierre

Fort Pierre’s Annual Christmas Tree Lighting included Santa and the Chili/Soup Cookoff. This year’s soup cookoff winner was the Fort Pierre Chamber represented by Kolt and Kelsey Hughes (minestrone soup chef).
Chili cookoff winner was Verendrye Benevolent Association represented by Shane Kramme. His entry was a wonderful white chicken chili. The two winners were an upset for long standing Reg Nelson’s knepfla soup (Reg was unable to compete this year.) Shad Ludemann’s chili entry has won for the last three or four years.
Only eight entries fed a crowd of about 100.  The winning entries were very close in the voting to other entries in the lineup. Dakota Emporium had provided a venison chili and a homestyle bean soup. Both were worth tasting and writing home about.
Waggoneer extraordinaire, Beth Briggs, showed up with festive decorations for her horse and wagon. Thank you, Beth, for braving the chill and to your helpers also, A GREAT BIG THANK YOU!
