Maier Meats Hangout Has Brought Historic Meat Market Back To Life
A ribbon cutting was held yesterday afternoon in downtown Fort Pierre for Maier Meats Hangout. Fort Pierre Development Corporation (FPDC) conducted the ribbon cutting and a crowd of two dozen well wisher attended.
The Hangout added a breakfast and lunch option for downtown in March and it has been popular with the locals. The store is an outlet for Maier Meats Processing Plant near Hayes, SD. The store’s hamburger, sausage, meat sticks, pizzas, and brats are all popular items. The Hangout is open from 7 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. every weekday except Wednesday offering a breakfast option and lunch option. Hailey Maier Vater, who operates the Hangout with her sister-in-law Ricci Maier, said she usess her grandmother’s cookbook for her recipes.
Attending the ribbon cutting were Mayor Gloria Hanson, FPDC Executive Director Dave Bonde, FPDC President Lyle Magorien, FPDC Office Manager Sunny Hannum, Fort Pierre Chamber Director Shane Kramme, Pierre Chamber Director Tia Kafka and Clarissa Drefs also from the Pierre Chamber AND Toby Morris, Colliers Security. Maier family members also attending the ribbon cutting were Dennis and Karla Maier; Colton, Ricci and Ryken Maier; Hailey Viken, Roxanne Heezen, and Carol Gaer.
Mayor Hanson reminisced about her high school days when the meat market had been an important downtown business and now it is once again being used for the same purpose. Bonde spoke of how Maier Meats had been a great addition to downtown Fort Pierre. Kramme thanked them for their Chamber membership and for doing a good job of meat processing for him personally.
Karla Maier thanked the community for embracing their business.
